MAY 1, 2005

Just weeks after handing out the first Find the Funny Awards, we have received 45 requests to read and 7 requests for contact/meeting.  Two options are in the works; we will post full details when they become available.  One writer (a runner-up) is already “working with” a management company.  Altogether a great start!  Good luck to all winners, finalists and runners-up.  Here are the details:

AEI-Atchity/Entertainment International has asked to read all the scripts – winners, finalists, and runners-up.

Gold Circle, Samuel Goldwyn, Fuse Entertainment, Shutt/Jones, Clifford Werber Productions at Warner Brothers, and Kaplan Perrone at Sony have all asked to read the top three winners (First Place BIG TURKEY by Simon Dodd and Bruce Griffiths, Second Place BACHELOR OF THE YEAR by Ruth Campbell, and Third Place Winner SPONTANEOUS by Joe Wilson).

O ENTERTAINMENT read Finalist Laurel DiGangi’s I’M WITH CUPID, and has requested a meeting with the writer.  They have also asked to read BIG TURKEY and BACHELOR OF THE YEAR.

Mosaic Entertainment, the John Klane Company, ICM, and UTA have also requested BIG TURKEY.  Co-writer Simon Dodd, who flew in from Australia, met with ICM just hours after the Find the Funny Awards ended.

Principal Entertainment has read Ruth Campbell’s BACHELOR OF THE YEAR and has requested contact information.  They have also read Finalist BIG PIMPIN’ and have requested contact information for co-writers Darryl Smith and Greg Gutman.

Caren Bohrman of the Caren Bohrman Agency met with Finalist Josh Shultz, writer of HOT PINK, who flew in from Japan.

Kersey Management has requested BIG PIMPIN’ and two other scripts, Finalist Camille LaGuire's SCENIC ROUTE and Finalist Stephen Michael Stauning's FUNKY CHICKEN.  After reading Runner-Up Ellwyn Kauffman's BANANA HUNTER, Kersey declared he "found a potential superstar."  Kauffman and Kersey are now working together.

Kaplan Perrone on the Sony lot read Finalist Scott Kline's WESTFORD ACADEMY VS. DR. APOCALYPSO and declared it “Fun!” and is now working with Scott.

Finalist George Melrod's script THE CHRISTOPHER WALKEN SOCIETY has been withdrawn from the contest as his agent is actively packaging it.  Good luck, George!
